Diablo VB Icon

Diablo Valley Volleyball Club, a non-profit organization with teams in both Walnut Creek and Brentwood, was founded to provide junior boys and girls the opportunity to improve their volleyball knowledge and skills. Our club's primary objective is to ensure that each player experiences a rewarding, educational, and fun season at Diablo!

For over 25 years, we have consistently emphasized our core club philosophies:

  • Provide a friendly and family-like atmosphere where all players feel welcome and supported by both the coaching and administrative staff.
  • Develop players' volleyball skills and knowledge in a competitive, positive, and fun environment.
  • Promote the values of good sportsmanship and foster the development of important life skills among players.
  • Coach, encourage, and motivate each team and player to improve to their potential over the course of the season.

Under the leadership of our dedicated Director and President, Sean Stratton, our teams, players, and coaches have achieved many remarkable achievements throughout the years. The majority of our Diablo players have shown incredible dedication and commitment to both the sport and our club. The players and families are truly exceptional and we see continuous improvement year after year. We hope to have you involved in our program this upcoming season!

Diablo Volleyball is a member of USA Volleyball (USAV) and the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA), and operates under their rules and Code of Conduct.

Coaching Philosophy

My main goals for the players that I coach are that they improve in the game of volleyball, build confidence, and gain strong communication skills.

CAP I – Certified

I have been involved in coaching sports since I was 14 years old when I was helping my dad coach my older sister’s softball team. I have always had the passion to be a coach and share my experience with others. I have been coaching volleyball for over 30 years. I have coached all levels and I have coached players from 8 to 60 years old.

I have had lots of successes in coaching and not all have come from winning a game. Just the idea that players finally get what I am asking them to do is the greatest gift I can receive. The player will look over towards me with a big smile, and we both know what has just happened.

I have my degree in Physical Education from California State University Long Beach. I’ve taken many things that I learned from my degree and incorporated them into my coaching.

I have always liked this quote that I share with all my teams. ”There is no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit”

Thrilled and amazed at how Diablo has continued to thrive over the last 30 years. We are so blessed with coaches, athletes and families who are committed to working hard and giving their best effort to make their Diablo volleyball season enjoyable and fulfilling.
I used to be able to name all 75+ campers in our summer sessions on Day #1 - now, I can barely remember my 30 third grade students’ names at the end of each school day - ha, ha! Sean fills me in on all the teams and it is enjoyable to still watch and cheer on teams at tournaments. Although, I am no longer coaching a specific team - I am available for observations with feedback. I am willing to come to practice to watch and take notes with comments and suggestions. If you are interested, please email us at diablovbc@yahoo.com with your practice day/time/site and player name. I will watch some of the practice then send notes to you via email afterward.
Volleyball has been such a positive outlet for me as I grew up with volleyball as the focal point of my own life as a player, coach, director and then as a volleyball parent. What brings me real joy is to see and hear the excitement on the courts. The Diablo athletes are fired up about learning and improving their game of volleyball while also having the opportunity to meet others who have the same passion for volleyball and there are many who build lifelong friendships.
Thank you to all the players, coaches, parents and many others that have been a part of building this fantastic quality and caring program, Diablo Valley Volleyball Club!!

Since picking up a volleyball for the first time at a clinic in 2010, the game has changed my life forever. It quickly became my passion and what kept me motivated to do better and be better; there was no turning back! I was involved with Diablo Valley Volleyball clinics before playing at Clayton Valley Charter High School and then at Sonoma State University for the Women’s Club team. We were fortunate enough to bring home the title of Division ll National Champions in 2018. During my time at Sonoma State, I was given the opportunity to be the head coach at Casa Grande High School for the Freshman and JV teams and the assistant coach for the Varsity team. Coaching at a high school level inspired me to start coaching for NOMAR volleyball club where I was the head coach for a 14 Premier team. After returning home from college, I began coaching for Diablo where I was the assistant coach of a 15 Power team and 16 Premier team. Since then, I have been a head coach and assistant coach for many teams and clinics. I am always excited to share my love of the game and help athletes reach their goals!

Some of my goals are:
• Creating a positive, inclusive environment where players can develop as athletes - both mentally and physically
• Fostering an environment where the players feel inspired to strengthen their skills - individually and as a team
• To see an athlete holistically and to adapt my coaching to what the player and team needs
• Building confidence through hard work and a positive mindset
• Building meaningful, authentic relationships with players, coaches, and other clubs
• Having fun!
