Jackie Ponciano-Babb
For as long as I can remember, volleyball has been a part of my life. Growing up in Hawaii, I’ve played multiple sports but volleyball was the one that I knew would always be with me throughout my journey of life. I played all throughout high school and was fortunate enough to play one year of club volleyball. My experience playing at Kamehameha Volleyball Club was the best time that I ever had. I learned more about volleyball in the four months that I played there than I did in the four years that I played at my high school. I am grateful for that opportunity which pushed me in the direction of becoming a physical educator and coach at the collegiate level.Having played volleyball at multiple levels (high school, club, junior college, and university) gave me valuable experience as a student-athlete but also as a future collegiate coach. Upon completing my playing career, I transitioned into coaching where I've spent 34 years of sharing my passion for volleyball. Providing players an opportunity to learn, grow, play at a high level, and understand what is expected of them to do their best is what gives me joy to continue to coach volleyball.

Amy Lewis
I have been playing volleyball since I was a little girl. I started out as a ball girl for the team my mom coached and quickly fell in love with the sport. I started playing club volleyball at 10 and played four years on my high school varsity volleyball team and earned All-League all four years. I went on to play for four years for Point Loma Nazarene University and graduated with a B.A. in Exercise Science.I have been coaching and training with Diablo since 2015 and I have been coaching at San Ramon Valley High School since 2012. I have a passion for working with young athletes and helping them become better athletes and teammates. My goal for each season is that each player feels like they have gained a better knowledge of the game and feel like they have worked hard to improve their abilities.

Henry Santos
Coach Henry started playing volleyball during his freshman year of high school and was the starting setter for the varsity team all four years. Although he went to college to pursue his baseball career, he still kept playing volleyball on his days off. He graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with his Master's in Business Administration and joined the US Coast Guard. While serving in the military, he started his coaching career with a local command unit made up of active duty and reserve members playing in local and regional tournaments. After moving to the Bay Area, he started coaching an adult team to include the master's division, 35 years of age and older. He also coached CYO 8th grade girl's volleyball at Christ the King school in Pleasant Hill. Coach Henry is passionate about volleyball and is dedicated to his players on and off the court. He lives by the values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty!

Alan is in his third year coaching at Diablo and has been on the coaching staff for the Acalanes High School Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Programs for six years. He has also previously coached women’s teams in the Bay Area in addition to coaching recreational Lamorinda volleyball teams.Alan is an avid learner and enthusiastic teacher of volleyball techniques and strategies, and he is committed to creating a positive and fun team environment to advance both individual skills and team performance at Diablo.

Emily Shum
As a child, I watched my brother play and coach volleyball at multiple levels, and I was constantly mesmerized by the speed and nuances of the game. He fostered my love for the sport with gentle guidance, starting with camps and recreational interscholastic leagues in middle school.Once I got to high school, there was no turning back—I jumped headfirst into playing more competitively. At the junior level, I played at Core Volleyball Club and Dougherty Valley High School. After graduating high school, I played four years of club volleyball at Sonoma State University while working towards my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.
As a coach, I'm committed to cultivating a fun, supportive learning environment founded on a solid basis of good sportsmanship and competitive spirit to help players improve their skills. I'm excited to guide each player based on their individual learning styles, watch their knowledge and love for the game flourish, and shepherd them into their highest potential on and off the court.

I’ve been coaching since I was very young. One of the first things I learned as a player and coach is that if you have a strong base of fundamentals, you will have every tool you need in order to succeed in whatever sport you play.My coaching philosophy is very simple and that is to make the growth and development of the game my number one concern each and every day. The athletes will learn what it takes to be a team player and develop each and every skill it takes to play this wonderful game of volleyball. As a coach, I will work hard each and every day to improve and expect every player on my team to do the same. My team motto is to always be better than we were yesterday!

Jeany Cave
Hi, my name is Jeany Cave and I have been coaching volleyball for over 25 years and this is my second year coaching with Diablo. I first developed my love for the sport when I played in school. Since that time I have coached various age levels from 13’s - 18’s, junior high, high school, and club.I had the great opportunity to coach both of my daughters and now they too are coaching their own teams up in Oregon where they now live. I took a brief break from coaching during my youngest’s senior year of high school so I could enjoy her last year. Once I retired from the Fire Service I decided it was the right time to return to coaching and Diablo is my perfect fit.

Jade Dancel
I discovered my passion for volleyball in 7th grade, when some friends encouraged me to try out for a club team. From the moment I stepped on the court, I was hooked. Since then, I've dedicated myself to the sport, playing indoor club volleyball, all four years of high school, and three years of beach volleyball. As I gained experience, I realized that I wanted to give back to the sport by helping younger athletes grow their skills and confidence. Coaching has become an extension of my love for volleyball. My goal is to support each player in developing their abilities, building their passion for the game, and achieving their personal goals both on and off the court.

Leo Hunkin
Leo Hunkin’s coaching philosophy is rooted in passion, purpose, and player development. A natural leader and communicator, Leo brings a lifetime of sports experience and a heart for mentoring youth athletes, both on and off the court.Leo’s journey in volleyball began during his childhood in American Samoa, where the sport was not just a game but a way of life. From a young age, he was drawn to the rhythm, teamwork, and competitiveness of volleyball, developing a deep respect for the sport that would stay with him into adulthood.
Leo’s coaching career began in youth tackle football, where he quickly made a name for himself as a powerful motivator and strategic thinker. He served as Vice President of the Delta Patriots for five years, playing a key role in developing the program and mentoring countless young athletes. His coaching path continued into youth softball, where his ability to connect with players and foster growth stood out just as much as his game knowledge.
In 2022, Leo returned to his volleyball roots by joining USVC. His approach blended technical expertise with a deep commitment to each athlete’s personal growth, ensuring that every player not only improves on the court but grows in confidence and character. Leo later joined Diablo Volleyball Club and helped with clinics as needed.
Leo is known for his strong leadership, calm presence, and consistent communication. He has a gift for creating positive, structured environments where athletes feel both challenged and supported. Whether he’s breaking down a drill, leading team strategy, or offering words of encouragement, Leo leads with clarity, integrity, and heart.
Above all, Leo loves to coach, to inspire, to teach, and to help young people unlock their full potential. His belief in the power of sports to build discipline, resilience, and community shines through in every practice and game.
As a coach, mentor, and role model, Leo Hunkin continues to leave a lasting impact on every athlete he works with, building not just better players, but better people.

Storee Lute
Hello, I’m Coach Storee and I have been playing volleyball for 13 years. I started playing volleyball when my friend asked me to try out so she wouldn’t be alone, and have been playing ever since. My junior year of high school, one of my favorite coaches asked me to be her assistant and that was my first time coaching. That year I coached for Vibe Volleyball. Since then I have coached for Santa Barbara Volleyball Club, and Diablo Valley Volleyball Club. While Coaching, I played volleyball at Las Lomas, UC Santa Barbara, and Diablo Valley College. As a coach, my goal is to help players learn to love the sport of volleyball as much as I do, while also learning to be competitive, skilled players.

I began playing club volleyball when I was 11 years old and continued throughout high school. I played varsity volleyball for four years in high school and helped my team gain three consecutive NCS championships. In 2006, we were northern California champions and second in state. My love for the game of volleyball fuels my passion for coaching. I find joy in coaching because I love to witness the excitement and enthusiasm that kids experience when they grasp new concepts or make connections. I firmly believe in instilling in them confidence, responsibility and a love for the game.

Leila Caralos
Throughout my experience, volleyball has offered me a hopeful escape from everyday life. I started my volleyball career in 7th grade and fell in love with the sport. Coaching PhilosophyMy main goals for the players that I coach are that they improve in the game of volleyball, build confidence, and gain strong communication skills.
CAP I – Certified
I have been involved in coaching sports since I was 14 years old when I was helping my dad coach my older sister’s softball team. I have always had the passion to be a coach and share my experience with others. I have been coaching volleyball for over 30 years. I have coached all levels and I have coached players from 8 to 60 years old.
I have had lots of successes in coaching and not all have come from winning a game. Just the idea that players finally get what I am asking them to do is the greatest gift I can receive. The player will look over towards me with a big smile, and we both know what has just happened.
I have my degree in Physical Education from California State University Long Beach. I’ve taken many things that I learned from my degree and incorporated them into my coaching.
I have always liked this quote that I share with all my teams. ”There is no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit”

Since that day it’s been my passion. After playing for so many years and meeting new coaches, I knew coaching was my next route. My goal as a coach is to help improve players to have confidence in their skills.Playing Experience:

I’ve been coaching since I was very young. One of the first things I learned as a player and coach is that if you have a strong base of fundamentals, you will have every tool you need in order to succeed in whatever sport you play.My coaching philosophy is very simple and that is to make the growth and development of the game my number one concern each and every day. The athletes will learn what it takes to be a team player and develop each and every skill it takes to play this wonderful game of volleyball. As a coach, I will work hard each and every day to improve and expect every player on my team to do the same. My team motto is to always be better than we were yesterday!

To give you a little history about myself and my volleyball credentials, I will start by saying volleyball has been a huge part of my life since high school. I played at Deer Valley High School while playing club volleyball at East Bay Juniors and Diablo Valley. I continued playing volleyball at Sacramento State University. Upon returning home from college, I immediately began assistant coaching at Deer Valley High School for both the boys and girls varsity teams, while also head coaching multiple Diablo Valley teams over the years. In 2012, I took over the Pittsburg Boys Varsity team and coached there for seven years, going to NCS multiple times. During this time (and still), I assistant coach the LMC Women’s Volleyball team. This will be my 10th year doing so.
Last year, I was given the opportunity to coach the 18’s Black team. It was a blast to see the achievements the team made over the season.
My coaching philosophy is simple. 100 percent effort all of the time. A player can not always control the outcome of every play they make, but they can always control the amount of effort they put into everything they do. Hardworking players and teams always seem to have a bit of luck on their side, but in reality, that luck is just their hard work personified. Work hard, play hard.

I tried many different sports growing up but I eventually discovered volleyball and fell deeply in love with the sport. I had watched my older sister play in high school and really didn’t get to try it until I got to middle school. It became something I knew I was good at but strived to be even better at every day. Once I got to high school I discovered club and began to play and grow stronger as a player but also as a person. I played club for four seasons, 3 being played with Diablo and 1 with Hercules Dynamite. After graduating high school I went on to play 1 season at Los Medanos College. Playing volleyball has taught me self-discipline, teamwork, mental toughness, effective communication on and off the court, and commitment. Learning these not only helped me deal with situations on the court but also off the court. After finishing my season at Los Medanos I knew I wouldn’t be able to live without volleyball and knew I wanted to give back to our youth. Since then I have assistant coached 4 teams and head coached 1 team for Diablo.Coaching Goals
As a coach, I strive to give my players the best opportunity to thrive under any circumstances on or off the court. I want to give my players a positive experience while also helping them gain confidence, learn how to work together and communicate effectively.

I started playing volleyball when I was around 10 years old. My brothers and cousins played, and it just looked like a lot of fun. Since then, I've played nearly every position except middle, but I've always gravitated towards setting and playing outside. I played through club and high school, and now I'm a member of Cal Poly's beach club team. During my club years, I had the opportunity to compete at nationals multiple times, which were some of my favorite experiences in the sport. I've also been coaching for the past three years, and I really enjoy helping players grow and gain confidence in their game - just like I did.

I started playing volleyball in 5th grade after growing up playing basketball, and quickly found it was my preferred sport. I played throughout junior high, and all 4 years of varsity volleyball at Berean Christian High School. I was selected to 1st Team All-League for the Diablo Valley Athletic League my senior season. I started club my junior season for Diablo, playing middle blocker for 17/18 White and my senior year playing middle blocker for 18 Green. The college I attended didn't have a men's team, but I played co-ed intramurals all 4 years and kept playing recreationally whenever I could. I also worked for my school newspaper in the sports section and covered nearly every game for our women's team for 3 years.
After graduation, I was an Assistant Coach for a girl's 18s team at Club South Bay, down in the LA area.
I believe that youth sports are a great way to learn responsibility, teamwork, improve social interaction skills, leadership, and of course improve physical health. I want to help everyone develop themselves and put their best foot forward, in wins and in losses, and generally fall more in love with the sport of volleyball!

Thrilled and amazed at how Diablo has continued to thrive over the last 30 years. We are so blessed with coaches, athletes and families who are committed to working hard and giving their best effort to make their Diablo volleyball season enjoyable and fulfilling.
I used to be able to name all 75+ campers in our summer sessions on Day #1 - now, I can barely remember my 30 third grade students’ names at the end of each school day - ha, ha! Sean fills me in on all the teams and it is enjoyable to still watch and cheer on teams at tournaments. Although, I am no longer coaching a specific team - I am available for observations with feedback. I am willing to come to practice to watch and take notes with comments and suggestions. If you are interested, please email us at diablovbc@yahoo.com with your practice day/time/site and player name. I will watch some of the practice then send notes to you via email afterward.
Volleyball has been such a positive outlet for me as I grew up with volleyball as the focal point of my own life as a player, coach, director and then as a volleyball parent. What brings me real joy is to see and hear the excitement on the courts. The Diablo athletes are fired up about learning and improving their game of volleyball while also having the opportunity to meet others who have the same passion for volleyball and there are many who build lifelong friendships.
Thank you to all the players, coaches, parents and many others that have been a part of building this fantastic quality and caring program, Diablo Valley Volleyball Club!!

Coaching PhilosophyHelp players learn to love the game:
Over many years of teaching and coaching, I have learned that when a player really loves the game they will put in the work. Improvement is always achieved. The best part about volleyball is that while it can be enjoyed at any level it gets really exciting the better you become. Volleyball draws players in because the game grows with your skill. Watching that growth up to the highest level is why I coach.
A little history:
I first played volleyball at my church in middle school. That led to high school volleyball at College Park High School and eventually to playing NCAA ball at UC Santa Cruz. After my days of playing ended I’ve coached at many different levels: Boys/Girls varsity at College Park, coaching many teams and camps for Diablo Valley Volleyball club, Men’s Club coach at UC San Diego (best finish was 3rd in the nation), Boys/Girls coach at Adams Middle School, and most recently Assistant Boys/Girls Varsity coach at Heritage High School.
I’m always excited to start a season and get a new opportunity to teach how to play this sport the right way. But above all else, it’s an opportunity to have fun! That’s what it’s all about!
Go Diablo!

I began playing volleyball when I was 13 with Diablo and continued with the club all the way through my 18’s year. I attended Deer Valley High School where I helped win two NCS championships and three BVAL titles. I was also awarded two team MVP’s and league MVP in my senior year. I went on to the University of Nevada, Reno where I played for the club team and eventually became the club president in my final two years of play. Throughout my volleyball career, I predominantly played outside hitter and libero. This is my first season taking a team with Diablo, however my coaching experience includes the Diablo summer clinics for the past five years as well as coaching a JV team for Wooster High School in Reno during my senior year of college. My goal as a coach is to help players develop both individually and as a team in order to compete at the highest level of play they’re capable of, while also maintaining a fun environment!
