Boys 14 Black SoCal Cup Highlights
Diablo would like to congratulate our Boys 14 Black team for another Top-10 finish at the SoCal Cup! This past weekend in Los Angeles was filled with some amazing season highs:
Top honors goes to Ben Horn who was the MVP of the weekend. He had a season-high 6 solo blocks in a game and 29 total blocks in 7 games.
Beckett Langkammerer had a season-high of 3 kills in a game and 12 total kills in 7 games. He also had a season-high of 8 blocks over the weekend.
Team captains Kian Hardman and Arthur Barros lead the team with a total of 58 kills each and Leo Krause wasn’t that far behind with 50 kills.
Arguably the most improved player of the team, Lucas Maldonado had 13 blocks and 4 kills. 1 of these blocks came at 21-21 vs another Northern California team Lakas. This helped push the team into the lead and win the 1st set.
Setters Ethan Tang and Finley Couillard had an amazing weekend. They had that ball moving around and the defense didn’t know where it was going next. Both setters had season-highs in assists. Finley had 15 assists in a game and Ethan was not that far behind at 11.
Libero Caleb Sunia had the team-high in digs with 19.
2nd libero Blake Carpenter and newcomer Caleb Worster were both battling to see who could get the most serves in a row. Blake took honors with 8 but Caleb however did get an ace with a top spin jump serve that ignited not only the bench but the crowd.
Overall, the Boys 14 Black had a blast this weekend both on and off the court. They attended the Long Beach State vs St. Francis volleyball game, played some beach volleyball, and hung out at the pool for 5 hours. This group of boys not only enjoys the game of volleyball but also being with each other. It was so much fun watching this team improve throughout the season and we can’t wait to see what they do at Junior Nationals in June!
Congrats to this awesome team and their amazing coaches!
